2011 Film Journal

As the days and weeks chug along, I will a keep a list of all the films I watch all year. Yep, every single one of them. Even the embarrassing and the awful.  There are a few simple criteria for a film to make the list. I will only include films watched in completion. 20 minutes of The Cable Guy on TBS won't make the list - sorry Benji Stiller.   If an entry lists two or more dates, then the film was seen in sections - one section on each date listed for that film. 

This list will include both films viewed for the first time and those with previous multiple viewings. Anything on this list was seen via Netflix Watch It Now, DVD, in the theater or on cable - please assume that anything viewed on cable was not only watched in completion, but also without commercials. Movies weren't made with ads designed to fit into the plot narrative, I prefer it stays that way
 
Each of the films on the list is rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Any reviews or notes that I've made on a film from the list will be linked. This will be an ongoing project, so please stay tuned.

    I love the film journal idea-
    I watched "Army of Shadows" and, "Dial M" already- I plan to watch your other "8s" and "9s" asap. Groundhog Day is at least an 8. Really looking forward to Le Corbeau, Rome: Open City, Grand Illusion, and Le Samourai.
    I'm off to watch the 2nd half of "The Wages of Fear" right now...

    I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts on Wages Of Fear.

    Groundhog Day is really good and very, very clever, but it has aged a bit and parts don't hold up as well over time and there's a pretty hokey stretch at the beginning of the third act that goes on for a while too long.

    Groundhog Day surprisingly great for me. Agree with your King's Speech and Social Network. Winter's Bone didn't quite cut it, though. I missed something.

    I know "the Birds" may not have aged as well as some other Hitchcock movies, but a 6 seems low. Of course, you know me- I'm biased. I feel like that man can just about do no wrong.

    I think a 6 for The Birds is probably kind. It doesn't hold up well at all. The story is pretty lacking, and while many of the shots are really great (the playground at school sequence is terrific) a lot of it seems phoned in by the whole cast and crew. It's just not that great of an idea for a film and lacks even a hint of the subtext of the majority of Hitchcock's other work. There just really isn't much there to love. Sorry.

    I saw Never Cry Wolf in the theater. All I remember was "Goood Ideeya."
