In our premier episode, my co-host Mike Vasas and I will discuss our thoughts on the advent of hispterism and whether or not that moniker applies to two guys who think highly enough of their own opinions to host a podcast. Plus, we'll like, love and hate the work of Woody Allen, get a fresh perspective on the Boston Tea Party and unearth a film from the early 70's you should wait absolutely no longer to view. Listen up, the new podcast is here.

I agree, hipsters ARE more interested in THEIR 7 films- in letting people know what they know- and validating how cool THEY are- than in learning about the films they HAVEN'T seen. It's also worth mentioning, though, that they will quickly forget about the annoyance of finding out about other cool things they didn't know about when they appropriate those films for themselves and take credit for knowing about them all along...(or at least before YOU knew about them.)
ReplyDeleteI think you should have loved Tiger Lilly more. If for no other reason, because it's so culturally important, what with directly influencing Kung Pow! Enter the Fist. Also, I think ScarJo is Woody's wilderness, and you should have hated Scoop at lot more.
ReplyDeleteLike it, Love it, Hate it idea: Trucker movies. Everything from the They Drive by Night (1940) to Over the Top (1987)counts. Focus of course, on the 1970s classics like Breaker Breaker and High Ballin'.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I have ever seen Tiger Lily all the way through, so I will have to go back and revisit it. Scoop is worth hating, but I actually really liked Vicky Christina Barcelona and Match Point. I am a usually a ScarJo hater, but I like those two films in spite of her.
ReplyDeleteThe trucker idea is a really good one. If nothing else, it gives us an excuse to watch a bunch of trucker films under the guise of "research".
